Levels of driving automation
A 0 to 5 scale for how much of the driving a car does, from none to all of it.
Engineers describe self-driving with levels from 0 to 5. At Level 2, the car can steer and brake but the driver must watch the road at all times. At Level 3, the driver can look away in certain conditions but must take over when asked. At Level 4, the car drives itself in a set area with no one needing to take over.
