Can Mantis™ Bring Twin-Wire Welding to Heavy Fabrication?
Against the record
Hadrian X, from FBR (formerly Fastbrick Robotics), is at stage 4 of 5 on our ladder: paying customers. Delivered and paid for, beyond pilots. The latest milestone on its record is from Oct 2026: FBR's website offers Hadrian for purchase by selected partners, at a base price of A$7.8 million. It lists a top speed of 360 blocks an hour.
This video comes from the maker's own channel, and makers show their robots at their best. The stage above comes from dated public records, not from the video.
From the video's description
FBR CEO Mark Pivac takes a closer look at Mantis™ and its first twin-wire welding trials, as we begin developing the welding processes that will underpin the robot's future applications in heavy fabrication. Earlier in September, FBR began welding trials with Mantis™, using a twin-wire welding process to produce fillet welds on 10mm plate. These were some of Mantis™'s first welds with the twin-wire torch and formed part of our ongoing weld process development. This footage shows the early results - including different process settings, start and stop parameters, crater fill and weld profiles - and Mark explains some of the variables that need to be optimised when controlling two wires in tandem. While these initial welds were not yet at the level we are ultimately targeting, they provided valuable information for refining the process. Since this footage was recorded on 2 September 20…
