Seeing the world differently: Inside the Zoox robotaxi’s 360° vision

Against the record

Zoox robotaxi, from Zoox (Amazon), is at stage 5 of 5 on our ladder: regulator-cleared or mass market. Cleared where approval applies, or widely sold. The latest milestone on its record is from 3 Sept 2026: Zoox added paid rides to and from Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport.

This video comes from the maker's own channel, and makers show their robots at their best. The stage above comes from dated public records, not from the video.

From the video's description

Zoox isn’t a modified car. It’s a purpose-built robotaxi, designed from the ground up for autonomy. That distinction matters. Cars are engineered around a human driver. Zoox took a different approach. And by designing the vehicle specifically for autonomy, perception became foundational, not an afterthought. Sensor pods on each corner provide a high vantage point to see over traffic. Cameras, lidar, radar, longwave infrared, and microphones work together to create a 360-degree perception system. And because the vehicle is fully symmetrical and bidirectional, every direction is forward, enabling consistent awareness and confident driving in either direction.
