02Track record

What has actually happened

Every milestone is dated and links to the page it comes from. Lines marked company-reported rest on the maker's own word.

What the maker said, and when

Dated targets the maker set in public, against what has happened since.

  • Two Amazon delivery drones flew into the same construction crane in Tolleson, Arizona, on 1 October 2025. DroneXL, 2 Oct 2025

  • An Amazon drone hit the outside of an apartment building in Richardson, Texas. It was damaged and smoked, but no one was hurt. DroneXL, 8 Feb 2026

  • DroneXL reported that an Amazon MK30 drone set itself down beside a Baton Rouge road during storms, and another was found on a lawn in Waco; Amazon had not explained either landing. DroneXL, 21 Oct 2026

How we placed it

The rule, not an opinion

Stages are worked out by published rules from the dated milestones above. We never rate robots, and no maker can pay to change a stage.

  1. 5

    Regulator-cleared or mass market

A regulator has cleared it where approval applies: FDA clearance or approval for a medical robot, a permit to run with no one aboard for a self-driving vehicle, or an FAA approval for routine drone flights. Or: Widely sold: sales in the hundreds of thousands, or a product category you can buy in ordinary shops.

  2. 4

    Paying customersThis robot

Delivered to customers who pay for it, beyond a trial, or a paid service the public can use.

Placed by: Amazon said Prime Air delivered from 11 US sites and would soon open in the Chicago, Syracuse, Cleveland, Atlanta and Boise areas (19 Aug 2026); Amazon started customer deliveries with its new MK30 drone in the West Valley of Phoenix, Arizona, and in College Station, Texas (11 Dec 2024).

Held at this stage: The FAA decision on our record is an environmental review of drone hubs, not an approval to fly. Amazon's paid customer deliveries put it at stage 4.

  3. 3

    Pilot

Working with a named customer in a real setting, as a trial.

  4. 2

    Pre-orders

Orders, reservations or deposits taken, with nothing delivered yet.

  5. 1

    Demo only

Shown in videos, staged events or a factory, with no units working for customers.

What we couldn't confirm. We could not confirm the exact date US deliveries resumed after the early-2025 pause. DroneXL says Amazon shut its Italian operation and its UK Darlington trial permission expires in December 2026; dates not confirmed.
