NHTSA, the US road-safety agency, opened a preliminary investigation into how well Avride's self-driving system avoids conflicts, after 18 crash reports in Dallas and Austin that caused property damage and one claimed minor injury. It covers about 200 vehicles. An investigation is not a finding of a defect.
